Because there are so many different sizes, models, insulation levels, and options, such as windows, it’s hard to nail down the common cost of a garage door installation. Usually a very well built insulated 16x7 door, without windows, can be anywhere from $1900 to $2500. Prices change with time and certain buildings can be more of a difficult install than others.

The condition of your sections, or “panels” is usually the driving factor if you need a new door. If they are cracked, bent, sagging, or rotting, your door most likely needs replaced. Age is also a factor. If your garage door is wood or fiberglass, and was built 50+ years ago, repairs can sometimes be difficult because of the lack of replacement parts. A new door should be considered in these situations as well.

Broken springs are probably the most common type of repair that we do. All springs, both extension and torsion, usually have a lifespan of around 10,000 cycles. Some last longer, some don’t. Worn out rollers and broken hinges is also a common repair. Along with rusted cables, broken or mis-aligned reverse sensors, and broken gears on certain model operators.

In most situations, once a year is sufficient. If the door(s) is used very often, or is in damp and/or dirty conditions, sometimes once a month is required.

Proper maintenance is a large part of making your door last a long time. As with anything mechanical, use and years take their toll. Only using your garage door a couple times a day can greatly increase the life of its spring(s) and other moving parts (hinges, rollers, bearings, etc).
